Regardless if it’s the start of a new school year and you’re jumping back into the work-home tug-o-war, or it’s mid-year, and you’re exhausted from the non-stop pull between different worlds, the elusive idea of balancing work and life always looming. You love teaching, and you love your family. Here are suggestions to help you bring a sense of harmony to your overall life.
What Choices Will You Make? Set professional and personal goals for yourself. Then direct your focus to achieve those goals. Remember it's okay to say no to things that don't align with meeting those goals.
Who Else Can Help? Students should do the heavy-lifting of learning. Increase students’ ownership of their learning by building in systems for accountability and peer-feedback. At my house, family members are "voluntold" tasks to chip in with household chores.
What's Your Passion? Showcase your passions and strengths; the passion feeds your sense of purpose. Let that passion steep into your every part of your life.
What is Perfection? Perfection is a mindset, so remember you are fantastic just the way you are. Feel fulfilled in your idea of great and live your best self. The energy you dedicate to building relationships with your students is what shapes them as people.
What About You? Set a routine to take care of yourself. Schedule this time in your calendar and treat it like a non-negotiable appointment. An hour to check-out and recharge replenishes the soul and provides the fuel necessary to create fresh ideas.
We are teachers, too. And we're moms. We get it! Which is why we created Evolved Educator and SmartPlanner™ our web-based app that provides an intelligent framework for teachers to design beautiful lessons. It reduces lesson planning from hours to minutes. Really! Because we are on a mission to improve education one teacher at a time.
